Are You Afraid of the Dark?
“Are You Afraid of the Dark?” is a horror and fantasy anthology TV series created through a collaboration between Canada and the United States. The original series was co-produced by the Canadian company Cinar and the American network Nickelodeon, with filming taking place in Richmond, British Columbia, and Montreal, Quebec, as well as their surrounding areas.
The episode titled “The Tale of the Twisted Claw” served as a pilot, premiering in the United States on October 31, 1991, and in Canada in October 1990. The series was broadcast on Nickelodeon’s SNICK from August 15, 1992, to April 20, 1996, and also aired on the Canadian network YTV from October 30, 1990, to June 11, 2000.
Nickelodeon revived the series with a new team of directors, writers, and actors from 1999 to 2000, continuing to air on SNICK. Tucker was the only original cast member to return for the sixth and seventh seasons, although Ross Hull made a comeback for the final miniseries, which notably diverged from the show’s traditional format by merging elements of the story with “reality.”
