For almost two months, the USS Newark, which was transporting a classified, experimental military load, has been missing in the ocean. When the submarine is eventually located sixty miles from the California shoreline, the government, keen to retrieve the missing cargo, gathers an expert salvage crew. They are joined by Dr. Carly Ryan, who led the initial project, and her assistant.
